EMG and accelerometer recordings during closed-loop TMS for tremor in Essential tremor and Parkinson's disease
In each session, data were recorded from the upper limb that exhibited the most pronounced tremor, and patients were asked to assume a tremor provoking position during TMS blocks.
A triaxial accelerometer (Biometrics Ltd, ACL300) and electromyographic (EMG) surface electrodes were used to monitor tremor dynamics and muscle activity throughout the experiment. EMG electrodes were placed on the first dorsal interosseous (FDI), abductor pollicis brevis (APB), forearm finger flexors (FFF), and forearm finger extensors (FFE). EMG activity was sampled at 5 Hz, amplified using a Digitimer D440 4-channel Amplifier (Digitimer Ltd.), and processed with CED Power1401 Signal Software (Cambridge Electronic Design, UK). The accelerometer was positioned between the first and second metacarpal heads on the dorsum of the hand, with the signal sampled at 1 kHz and processed using the same data acquisition software as the EMG data. The data are stored in MATLAB .mat files.
Tremor amplitude was recorded:
- at baseline in the absence of stimulation for 3 minutes (SXX_DD_resting tremor.mat)
- during 16 blocks of TMS (SXX_DD_stim.mat)
- after stimulation for 3 minutes (SXX_DD_resting tremor_post.mat).

This dataset is in on-going use by the creators, and will be made publicly available when those projects are complete. It can be made available on request under the conditions of a data transfer agreement. Requests should be via email to Professor Charlotte Stagg charlotte.stagg@ndcn.ox.ac.uk, and include details of the hypotheses to be tested or the proposed exploratory analyses, and include the researchers' affiliations. Access will be granted if the data are suitable for use to test the hypotheses, and the work wouldn't reduce the impact of the creators' on-going projects. In some cases, a collaboration will be the most productive way to exploit the dataset.
